Next month, February 21st, I’m co-teaching a free workshop through Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers with my buddies Charlie and Cath. This is my first time teaching a writing workshop and I’m having a bit of impostor syndrome about it, but it’s going to be a great time.
So, what are we teaching? Writing the Basics of Queer Characters. Aka writing GLBTQ+ characters for any genre, not gay romance-specific. Some of the things we’re covering are:
- How sexuality might influence your character and how they interact with the world around them
- Some common forms of harmful stereotypes and unintentional homophobia/transphobia/other-phobia to look out for (or use in your world- and character-building)
- Developing rich, diverse characters for your world, no matter what you’re writing
- And more!
